Terraflow: Case Study 01

Community Garden

Brynn Lucky

Case Study 01:
The senior garden is a larger community-center space along E 115th St and 3rd Avenue at the end of the "Terra//Flow Walking Path" route. It aims to give outdoor recreational activities back to the senior population such as gardening and green grass for aerobics classes. The 3D printed bricks stack into a structural wall that cools its inhabitants using the Bernoulli Effect and shades them from the harsh sun rays perfect for picnicking and games. The community garden is a third space designed first for senior citizens and to give them opportunities for socialization and movement outside of confining apartment units.

Sections The section combines traditional assembly systems with the Terraflow bricks to both convert the hot summer wind into high speed cooling air as well as provide shade with the added benefits of a green roof such as rain capture and nature evaporative cooling stemming from the plants overhead.
